GUEST POST!
Shout out to my mom for cooking this delicious, fun meal 🙂 This sweet potato and turkey chili is a great meal for a cold winter day (just like this one). It’s just like your favorite chili dish but with one extra ingredient that makes it even better- sweet potatoes! I’ve said before that sweet potatoes are one of my favorite foods so I was very excited to try this dish.
This is a crock pot recipe so you can make it in the morning and let it cook all day to absorb the flavors. You can also make this with ground beef or pork if you prefer. This recipe is from Allrecipes.com and can be found here.
Timing:
- Prep: 30 Minutes
- Cook: 6 Hours
- Total Time: 6 hours, 30 minutes
Ingredients:
- 2 Sweet Potatoes, diced
- 2 (14.5 oz) Cans of Diced Tomatoes with Chili Seasonings
- 1 (8 oz) Can of Tomato Sauce
- 3/4 Cup of Diced Sweet Onion
- 1/2 Cup Chopped Celery
- 1/2 Cup Water
- 1 Tablespoon Chili Powder
- 1 Teaspoon Cumin
- 1/2 Teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
- 1 Pinch Salt
- 1 Pinch Ground Black Pepper
- 1 Pinch Cayenne Pepper
- 1 Pinch Garlic Powder
- 1 Pinch Onion Power
- 1 Pound Ground Turkey
- 1 (12 oz) Can Black Beans
- 1 Cup Corn
Directions:
Begin by chopping up sweet potatoes, onion and celery. Place sweet potatoes, stewed tomatoes, tomato sauce, onion, celery, water, chili powder, cumin, cinnamon, salt, black pepper, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder in the slow cooker. Cook on high for 5 hours.
Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and stir in ground turkey. Cook until no longer pink and the meat is crumbly. Add the turkey, black beans and corn to the slow cooker. Continue to cook on high for 1-2 more hours.
When you are ready to serve, keep the slow cooker on to maintain heat. If desired, top with cheese, sour cream or cornbread. Enjoy!
Thanks again to my mom for this great dish! Definitely a thumbs up from me 🙂
